ABOUT

Many high school rowers want rowing to be part of their college experience and we understand the desire to continue with the sport in the next phase of their lives. As everyone knows, searching for and choosing a college is complicated and can be very stressful for both rower and parent. The addition of the element of rowing into the college search adds another layer to this already challenging process. It is critical that the rowing program fits the rower in the same way that the college fits the student. Having successfully navigated this process we understand the issues involved with making the proper choice for each individual. Through our combined experience of over 12 years at Community Rowing, Inc. we have provided guidance, support and advice to rowers and parents on a personalized basis.

Background Information
Gail Fradin Silberstein is a lawyer by training who has been practicing in the real estate area for many years. Her interest in rowing began when her oldest daughter began coxing at Community Rowing, Inc. in 2001. Her younger daughter started coxing in 2003 and rowing became a family affair with Gail and her husband learning to row. Gail has rowed in both sweep boats and single sculls and has coxed practices and races so has an appreciation for the many different aspects of the sport. She was one of the driving forces behind the development of the Community Rowing Parent Association and was the head of that association for 2 years. Gail’s daughters were coxswains in college, at Dartmouth and at the University of Pennsylvania. Gail’s involvement in her daughters’ college admission process resulted in her visiting many colleges, meeting with numerous coaches and learning about the different types of college rowing programs. Subsequent to her own daughters’ college admissions, Gail continued to be involved in guiding parents of other rowers through the admission and decision making process and continued to develop her knowledge of college programs and coaches. Most recently Gail created and presented a series of classes for parents of rowers after which she was approached by many parents who articulated the need for the type of services we are now offering.

Maura Schoenfeld Glandorf, a CPA by training, has been involved in business for the past 30 years most recently serving as President of Meridian Clean Fuels, LLC, a renewable energy equity firm. She has been involved with Community Rowing since 2003 when her daughters began rowing and subsequently was head of the Community Rowing Parent Association. Maura was recently elected to the Community Rowing Board of Directors and is proud to continue her involvement with this outstanding rowing organization. Maura's twin daughters row for Yale and her youngest rows for the University of Virginia. Like Gail, Maura learned the details of the recruiting process as she and her husband guided their daughters through the college search. She continues to advise current rowers and their parents about college choices and how to manage the process from beginning to end.
